Nowadays, you never know who’s going to answer the phone! Bridget is getting more comfortable using the phone and now wants to answer it when it rings. She gets really excited! I have let her answer it a few times, usually when I know it’s Daddy calling. I try to tell her Mommy or Daddy has to be around when she answers the phone in case it’s someone who wants to talk to us (like telemarketers) and she’s doing good with that so far.

Owen loves the phone too, no telling how long before he’s talking to any of you over the phone!

Well, I’m playing this Game On! diet with my father-in-law, cousin Kate, and friend Laura. We are coming up on our second weigh in and I’m finding that it’s really helping me prioritize better, and lose a little weight in the process!

Don’t get me wrong, I love food. And, I’m not one to complain about being heavy. But, I am at the point where I refuse to buy a larger size pant than I wear right now… and I need to cut out the snacking. The eating-between-meals without thinking about it, something heavy on the empty calories, kind of snacking. Dad found this book and since I’m competitive and a rule-follower, I thought it would be great! (you can check it out at www.thegameondiet.com)

It is a HUGE change and adjustment. But, I am losing a little weight (had a major alcohol Day Off and it busted most of my hard work in one 3-hour sitting with coworkers… evil coworkers!) and I’m watching less TV. I’m up and moving more and spending more time playing and wrestling with the kids. I’m drinking a lot more water (we have to drink 3L a day) but I’m also less tired. So, thus far, it has been great!

Looking forward to playing the Game throughout the holidays and kicking some Team OH booty.

Frank and I both got tickets to the Town Hall held by President Obama on Saturday, August 15. It was held at a local high school in my school district and it was an amazing event. I can tell you there was a LOT of planning and preparation that went into it the week beforehand and then it was organized chaos the day of the event. So many people! Overall, an amazing and intense experience to be in the same room as the President of the United States. To hear him speak in person was to confirm what we knew from TV, Barack Obama is one heck of an orator! A once in a lifetime experience for the both of us that we will treasure always. We hope to post some of our pictures and maybe some from friends who also attended… so check back!

Bridget has more sass and drama and we’re hoping this phase fades away as she gets older, not that it gets any worse. Hard to believe she’ll start school in a month at the local Catholic school here in town. She’s 95% potty trained with a few accidents here and there, but otherwise it’s all underwear, all the time at our house!

Owen has learned to say “stop” and “no”. We can’t confirm this, but it was reported to us by daycare. His eating has slowed down a little (which helps us afford food, and we know he’ll only get worse in that dept as he gets older). He has a full set of teeth on top and got his last molar recently as well. He walks and runs around, is into making cute faces and funny noises and playing with trains.

They are both a bit sick at our house lately. It’s no fun but hopefully we will all be in the clear soon.

Bridget’s surgery went well yesterday and the doctor was able to stay out of her bladder and do what he wanted with her two ureter tubes on the left. (think two parallel lines going down from kidney into bladder and now the bad tube is cut off and tied to the good one to form a Y) It was what he wanted to do and we are all optimistic that this could be the last surgery she undergoes for her kidney function. As he said yesterday, “We have her system working as good as it can right now.”

Well, for starters, Bridget broke her arm Wednesday at daycare. We were headed out Wed to Denver… had to leave a little later than planned after 4 hours that afternoon in the local ER. It was her left forearm, both bones. I hope to have a copy of the x-ray scanned and uploaded here for all to see… it was gross.

Owen had his surgery on Friday morning and all went well. He’s sore and only cranky when his three hours are up and he’s ready for Tylenol/Motrin. He started crawling around and pulling himself up the minute we got him home to Grandma’s!

Kids are so resilient. It’s a good thing because this stuff is traumatic for Mom and Dad! Our love to all!

Bridget is doing more and more letter recognization, she knows almost the whole alphabet. She can sing it all in Spanish too, she loves learning Spanish words! She’s very close to being potty-trained and knows that’s the way life has to be if she’s going to go to school, which she very much wants to do! We are looking at preschool programs for her to start in the fall, as she’ll be 3 in May. She loves the idea of school!
